Comments : Thanks to M and Nat Chan for your comments! I was gonna release it weekly but here it is just for yous! Master baker is an original character. I might use him more in later chapters. Reading back on my comics, the english I used was soooo bad... not that my english has improved. lol

Some help for reading this comic
'to give face', Verb, (idiomatic) meaning To honor; to pay respect.

Read this link, to read up on how to speak Malaysian english, which I will be using alot in my comics. It will be easier to understand that way. I use alot of 'la' at the end of most sentences.

Read this link to learn more about the teenage mutant ninja turtles. I grew up watching the turtles. My favourite was Raphael.

Comments : I will be moving to a new address soon. Salmy and Adoy have great chemistry, I reckon and these two 'bad guys' are my favourites. I did this comic when I lived in Tasmania. If you didn't know, shops and restaurants closed very very early like 6pm!!! So Banjos was one of my favourite hangouts. I named Pianos after Banjos... DUH!

These characters were modelled after original characters such as the Ninja turtles. The characters themselves are based on my friends back in Tasmania. Adoy for instance loved Star Wars and spoke like Yoda. Salmy, on the other hand smelt like a piece of fish, that's why I drew him as a fish.

Comments : I started this comic in 2005 and stopped somewhere in 20xx. I like how all the characters posed with pk in the front

Blog 1.6 The introduction of pk!comics

Hello ladies and gents

I am taking a break from reviewing foods (aka foodviewing) around Melbourne to focus on a passion of mine, comics. Actually, this is more of a re-kindling of the fire of drawing that had died long ago. It may just die again, but if that happens, I will just turn to foodviews again.

So back in 2005 when I was a young healthy male full of energy and passion, I started a production company called, Limubear productions. I am very proud of my production company, I produced promotional flash-based video for a convention, and yea... that's about it. Oh yeah! I produced a comic called "the exciting adventures of PK!"

So pk is the main character and so the comic is called pk!comics(TM). I normally release like a page every 1-2 weeks or monthly whenever I feel like it lol.

I draw all my comics with Microsoft Paint. Also from time to time, I get guest artists to draw a page for me. I am fortunate enough to have had two talented artists guest-draw two pages for me.

Please read and enjoy my comic.

PPS. I am moving my blog to a new address as my passion for gundams have died. So its kinda weird that my blog is still called gundamhotel when no gundams have checked in. So lookout for my new address, coming soon.

Foodview 1.4 Mama Chan's Curryhouse, Travancore

Mothers. If you ask anyone on the street who is the greatest person they've ever met, 9 out of 10 wow say its their mama! A big shout out to my mom and all the moms in Melbourne and in asianland.

So today (though a belated one) is a special edition mama foodview.

Intro
Mama Chan is curry cook originally from Japan and all her curry customers would call her 'okaasan' and in the early 2000s she and her family moved to Hong Kong her customers would address her by her Hong Kong name, 'Mrs. Chan'. Finally she got on a boat and arrived on the shores of Melbourne where everyone calls her 'Mama Chan'.

Mama Chan's restaurant is by word of mouth and special invitation only. Fortunately for me, her son is none other than Australia's current FIFA10 champion, Nat Chan. And that is how I got to eat Mama Chan's curry.

Mama Chan's twin pack special, Dhal and Korma with rice.

Nice package. Speaking of packages, here is a riddle, " A man was found dead in an open field with a package beside him. How did he die? " You can ask me any question but I can only comment, "Yes", "No" and "Irrelevant". I might also say "Futile".

Opening the lid, is the twin curries. Korma and dhal. Presentation is visually pleasing. Points for that. The dhal spilt over the rice is my fault :P

Zooming in on the korma. Nice rich colour. Cant wait to dig in. You must click to view in all its glory. This small pic doesnt do it justice

The dhal. Consistency is like mash potato. You can see my two fingerprints to determine its consistency ^_^v

When one has curry, you must have it with pappadams. You can buy them from KFL supermarkets.

Just place them in the microwave.

And cook for 45 seconds. I am a big fan of Sanyo home appliances. Microwaves and vaccuums.

Tada! Instant pappadams.

45 seconds might be too long as the edges are a bit burnt.

First impressions: Meatballs and curry! Meatballs are an Aussie tradition!

"if it ain't got meatballs it ain't Australian" - quoted by some australian immigrant.

"Why we even have Maggi(TM) mee meatball flavour, dope yo! " - quoted by the same australian immigrant, possibly an asian or italian or an italasian?!

A first for me to have meatball in curry. Usually its beef (which can be tricky to cook), the common chicken or even fish or veggies. I like the meatballs in curry. I especially love Ikea(TM) meatballs.

The meat was at the right texture and wasnt dried or bouncy. Plus points. Note there wasnt any meat in the dhal. Now onto the sauce.

Korma: Big portions of meatballs. Nice and meaty. A nice sweet tangy flavour can't figure out what spice was used. Not spicy at all. I like that. Dope yo.

Dhal: Creamy thick consistency almost like mash potatoes. The flavour of the dhal balanced the korma. Great insight, mama chan.

Overall comments and rating: Great eat. Portions of meat and sauce and rice is just right. Very happy with balance of taste between the two sauces. Dhal was a tad bit thickish and creamy (This is comparing to Kayu's dhal, of course). Kayu is an Indian restaurant that is the Malaysian governing body of curries.

4 out of 5 stars.

Happy Mother's day! Sorry it took awhile but I was review Grand Theft Auto4 and my review of it is 2 out of 5 stars!!!

Foodview 1.3 Pho Hung Vuong, Footscray

For the foreigner in Melbourne, the word "Footscray" wont mean much to you, you might probably pronounce it as foots cray. However, Melbournians know that Footscray was previously the people's republic of Vietnam. That's right, especially on Barkly street in Footscray, the signs are even in Vietnamese.

So what to do in Footscray? Well the no.1 thing not to do is to park anywhere along Hopkins street. The great city council of Maribyrnong will slap a fine on you in a heartbeat. Grab a taxi, ride your bike or even run there. Just don't park there!

Back to my question, my reply is as the saying goes, "When in Rome, eat like the Romans". So when in Footscray, eat Vietnamese food. Now I am not too familiar with Vietnamese food, the only things I know are Broken rice and Noodle soup with leaf branches.

Again, I employed the "go to the restaurant that's full of customers" approach. Surprisingly, there are quite a number of restaurants with only one or two tables filled. Then I found the one, Pho Hung Vuong, (please forgive me for not including the apostrophes), the place was packed! I knew I made the right choice because on their windows were the following words, "you've tried the rest, now try the best". Only great cooks can be that confident, I reckon.

Chinese tea was free flowing (every table had thermos) and was hot. Serving free chinese tea that tastes great is an absolute must in my food reviewing book! So that's already a plus. I notice alot of the Footscrayans were eating noodle soups and there wasn't leaf branches in them!

I guess it must only be that Vietnamese restaurant along Swanston street that serves noodle soups with real brances with bark that float on your soup. Yes, if you are wondering which restaurant, its the one that claims the former US president, Bill Clinton had two bowls at their establishment.

Back to my review, I decided to try their version of Broken rice, CatBeef ball soup and Pork springrolls.
Nice big portion. I was happy when I saw this. If only I could call it a McHappy meal.

Click for bigger view

The pork was great but I felt that it could have been better.

Free soup with the rice is always a plus. Fish sauce is standard.

Next up is pork springrolls. Now I genuinely thought the cabbage was a garnish, but when I solved one of life's mysteries when I saw Mr.P wrap a piece around a springroll.

Fish sauce.

For you to dip these into. YUM

Beef ball soup with bean sprouts and leaves! I wonder why Vietnamese use leaves in their food.

Close up. The taste of the soup comes from the beef balls. Not salty. Taste just right.

Bean sprouts a'plenty

A definite recommend by gundamhotel. The only problem would be parking. Apparently noodle soups are the best as 99% of the customers were eating them. So give them a go @ 128 Hopkins street, Footscray.

Verdict
Taste : 4 out of 5 stars
Value : 4.5 out of 5 stars

Gym 22

Tonight I did my first ever 2km jog. I had the honour of running with everyone's favourite rival©, Mr.P. Yes, he is my eternal arch-rival, but we signed a memorandum of understanding that tonight is a test run to see if I will die running 2km and not competition. As I am writing this, it means I have passed. Barely.

Tonight I must say was a beautiful night to run at the running track. The rubber track feels good to run on. The Spirit of Maribyrnong race might be held here instead.

Running is a whole different level of endurance compared to Swimming. It was a good thing that I went running or I wouldn't have realised that it will take me longer to build up my stamina. So I might give up Swimming (better for my hair, chlorine is bad) and focus solely on running/jogging whatever you wanna call it to get my stamina up to scratch.

Mr.P's previously life must have been a horse. If I didn't collapse after the 2km mark, he would have gone on. From a competitive point of view, I am in deep trouble. There is the Italian stallion to consider as well, Mr.P reckons she is a good runner.

Anyways, despite the fact that I was wheezing and my legs felt like it had been stabbed a billion times, I enjoyed my run. So this coming Wednesday, I hope I am fully recovered to go running with Mr.P again. Stay tuned for more Spirit of Maribyrnong run updates.

Gym 21

An excerpt from my upcoming book, "The King of Maribyrnong", which will be released on the 27th June 2010. This release coincides with the same date as the Spirit of Maribyrnong 4km run. This run is open to all interested parties, both inexperienced and experienced. Leave a comment for more details.

"I made it to 300 metres. I was going to stop but then I saw a figure about 5 metres in front of me, he looked like my arch-rival. I couldn't understand it. I was the only one in the pool that chilly Sunday morning, could it be lack of oxygen from exhaustion? I immediately gave 'chase' to that ghostly figure and swam a further 150 metres."

Recommended retail price of my new book is AUD 5.00 inc GST. Available at Boreders bookstores as well as Amazone.com.

Training Day 4, a new target of 450 metres. Very impressive but I was dead tired after that. 3 hours zzz in bed. Tomorrow must start leg work at the gym, I thought I could focus on building stamina but Mr.P managed to muscle the date forward by a whopping 4 months. This means more intense workouts and I must at least do a test 4km run to gauge the distance.

PS. Badminton courts availability on the 16th May 2010 is from an insane time of 9am to 11am. That was all that I could get. Shorter time means limited numbers. All interested leave comments. Thanks.
